Literature Fair

The NLCA Literature Fair is scheduled for Tuesday, October 1st. I have explained the details and requirements for projects to the class. All students need to have a sixth grade appropriate book selected and approved by Friday, August 30. Once approved, students may begin reading their book and working on their projects. In sixth grade, literature fair projects also count as a language test grade and a reading test grade.

Testing Schedule for the First Week of School

Hello, Sixth Grade! 

I am so excited to get this year started! I've been working feverishly making plans for our school year and wanted to give you a heads up to some tests you will have the first week of school. 

• August 21 - Multiplication Test on facts 3x1 through 12x12. 
• Students are required to achieve a 95% or greater on this test. Retests will be given daily until a 95% can be achieved. 
• August 22 - Vocabulary Test (below are the words and definitions for this test) 
• respite - a short period of rest or relieft 
• preempt - to replace with something considered to be of greater value 
• proliferate - increase rapidly 
• antithesis - a person or thing that is the direct opposite of someone or something else 
• schlep - to procede or move especially slowly, tediously, awkwardly or carelessly 
• August 23 - Spelling Test on List 1 (this list also includes vocabulary words)
• Students will write the words on a sheet of notebook paper as dictated by the teacher. 
• For vocabulary words, the teacher will say the definition of the word and the students will write the word on the same sheet of notebook paper. (A word list will be written on the board)

Registration for the 2024-2025 school year opened to the public on Monday, April 8th. Some of our classes have already reached near maximum capacity. Spirit Week Theme Days

Spirit week will be celebrated February 5-9, 2024. Below is a look at the theme days! 

Monday - Board Game Day (Dress up as a piece of a board game, a character, or the game itself.)

Tuesday - Role Reversal Day (Teachers dress as students and students dress as teachers.)

Wednesday - Anything but a Backpack Day with Crazy Socks

Thursday - Circus Day 

Friday - School Spirit Day (wear maroon and gray) 

Classes will have the opportunity to earn "points" towards the class competition in the following ways: 

• Penny War
• Spirit Day participation 
• Pep Rally Video
• Class Poster 
• Spirit Stick 

A pep rally will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024.
